Jon Rahm's attorney confirms he will not rejoin LIV Golf

Summary

Jon Rahm's lawyer said the golfer has rejected the terms of LIV Golf's proposed new structure and will not participate, with a separation agreement expected by mid-October.

Jon Rahm's legal representative, John Beck, told a bankruptcy court on Wednesday that the Spanish golfer has reviewed the conditions of the proposed LIV 2.0 plan and finds them unacceptable, confirming he will not play for the league in the upcoming season. Beck added that Rahm and LIV are negotiating a separation agreement that both sides hope to finalize by Oct. 15.

LIV Golf, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after losing funding from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, recently extended its player-commitment deadline to Oct. 25, with Rahm reportedly given a later deadline of Nov. 5. The league also announced a restructuring support agreement with BC Partners that includes a $300 million investment and a reduced schedule, while offering players a 52.5% equity stake in the restructured entity.

"We believe deeply in the future of this league and in the opportunity to build something distinctive alongside our players," said LIV CEO Scott O’Neil in a statement.

Rahm, 31, is among the league's largest creditors, with more than $100 million reportedly owed to him. Other players, including fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia, have also secured releases from their contracts as the league undergoes its reorganization. Rahm previously declined the PGA Tour’s one-time Returning Member Program, which has been used by a few former LIV players to regain Tour membership.
