Meghan Markle and Prince Harry deny reports of planned apology to William and Kate
Royal journalists say rumors that the Sussexes will apologize to the Prince and Princess of Wales over their 2021 Oprah interview are unfounded.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have no intention of apologising to Prince William and Kate Middleton for comments made in their 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, sources close to the couple said. Royal journalist Tom Sykes told Page Six the claim was "total rubbish" and that a source close to Harry dismissed the story as fabricated, noting that Harry has repeatedly said he will never apologise for anything. Podcast host Kinsey Schofield added that her own sources consider the allegation "absolutely not true" and warned against treating reports of regret as credible.
The rumor originated from a Daily Express story that quoted an unnamed source claiming the Sussexes were planning to express regret and seek reconciliation with the Prince and Princess of Wales. The Express piece suggested the couple felt their interview was a "low blow" and that they wanted to "eat humble pie" after returning to the UK. Both Sykes and Schofield said they have no evidence to support those assertions.
The 2021 interview, in which Meghan said a royal family member had raised concerns about their son Archie’s skin colour and that she experienced suicidal thoughts, sparked a long-running dispute between the two branches of the family. After stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the couple moved to California, returned to the United Kingdom in August, and have kept a low public profile since then. While King Charles III has clarified that they remain private citizens, William and Kate have not publicly signalled any change in their relationship with the Sussexes.
