Authorities have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. Robinson was taken into custody late Thursday in Washington County, Utah, following a tip from a family friend who reported that Robinson had implied involvement in the incident.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed the arrest, stating that Robinson had become "more political" in recent years and had expressed negative views about Kirk.
Robinson, who has no prior criminal history, briefly attended Utah State University and is currently enrolled in an electrical apprenticeship program at Dixie Technical College.
The weapon used in the shooting was identified as a high-action bolt rifle. Bullet casings found at the scene bore inscriptions, including "Hey fascist! Catch!" and "Oh Bella Ciao," referencing an anti-fascist Italian anthem.
Robinson is being held without bail on initial charges, including aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. Formal charges are expected to be filed early next week.
President Donald Trump first announced the arrest during a Fox News interview, stating, "With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody."
Governor Cox emphasized the broader implications of the incident, describing it as "an attack on all of us" and urging unity in response to the tragedy.
