Filmmakers say Elizabeth Holmes and husband have not seen their documentary after LA screening
The documentary "You Can See Everything" premiered at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, where co-directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim discussed the production and noted that Holmes and her husband have not yet viewed the film.
A star-studded screening of the documentary "You Can See Everything" was held at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles on Tuesday, following earlier showings at Telluride and the New York Film Festival. The film, co-directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, chronicles the final month before Elizabeth Holmes' imprisonment, documenting her life with husband Billy Evans and their children.
After the screening, a Q&A moderated by Bill Hader addressed the filmmakers' relationship with the subjects. Fielder explained that Holmes had initially approached A24 to produce a documentary, and after several meetings the directors agreed to the project despite limited familiarity with their previous work. He noted that the couple’s involvement grew over time, with Holmes and Evans eventually pulling him on camera.
"There was never a great explanation as to why... you would want to spend your last month of freedom in a decade with this guy. Like, why?" – Nathan Fielder, during the discussion.
Oppenheim disclosed that neither Holmes nor Evans have seen the documentary; Holmes remains incarcerated and Evans has not viewed the film. He attributed this to a breakdown in communication as Evans attempted to exert control over the production, creating tension for the crew and the studio.
The directors also described concerns about possible surveillance at the couple’s San Diego rental, saying they attempted to detect bugs without success. Fielder said the experience left him uncertain about what actually occurred and expressed hope that a wider audience will help clarify the events depicted.
"You Can See Everything" is scheduled for theatrical release on October 16.
