U.S. Men’s Soccer Wins 1-0 Over Canada to Complete Four-Game Winning Streak
Teenager Justin Ellis scored the lone goal as the United States defeated Canada 1-0, finishing a perfect four-match run in the latest FIFA window.
The United States men’s national team secured a 1-0 victory over Canada on Tuesday in St. Paul, Minnesota, completing a four-game winning streak in the current FIFA window. 19-year-old Orlando City striker Justin Ellis, who had previously scored against Peru, netted the only goal in the 29th minute after a sequence that began with a pass from midfielder Alex Freeman.
Goalkeeper Brian Schwake earned a shutout in his first start for the U.S., becoming the fourth different keeper to start during the window. The match featured several lineup changes, with midfielder Gio Reyna deployed in a deeper role and new caps including winger Mathis Albert and defender Cole Campbell making their debuts.
Canada, coached by Jesse Marsch, applied sustained pressure but were unable to convert chances, despite a close effort from Jonathan David that forced a save from Schwake in the 64th minute. The U.S. made several substitutions at halftime, bringing on Julian Hall, Sebastian Berhalter and Sergiño Dest as Ellis left the field with a leg contusion.
The United States will next face Haiti in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals, with the first leg scheduled for November 14 and the return leg on November 17 in Cincinnati.
