Poland Dismisses Trump's Suggestion of Russian Drone Incursion as Accidental
Polish officials reject President Trump's assertion that Russia's drone incursion into Polish airspace may have been a mistake, emphasizing the deliberate nature of the violation.
Polish officials have dismissed President Donald Trump's suggestion that Russia's recent drone incursion into Polish airspace may have been accidental. Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated, "We would also wish that the drone attack on Poland was a mistake. But it wasn't. And we know it."
The incident involved 19 Russian-made drones entering Polish territory, with parts of 17 drones recovered without causing injuries or significant damage. Polish and NATO fighter jets were scrambled to intercept the drones, marking the first such response to Russian military incursions into NATO airspace since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine over three years ago.
President Trump commented on the situation, saying, "It could have been a mistake," expressing hope for a swift resolution. However, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski countered, "No, it wasn't a mistake," emphasizing the deliberate nature of the incursion.
Poland has requested a United Nations Security Council meeting to discuss the incident, scheduled for Friday afternoon.
