Counter Documentary "NAZA: The Real Story" Released by Israeli Reservists

Summary

A 49-minute rebuttal film titled "NAZA: The Real Story" has been posted online by Israeli reserve officers, offering an alternative narrative to the award-winning Gaza documentary "NAZA".

A new documentary called "NAZA: The Real Story" was uploaded online this weekend. The 49-minute film was produced by Lt. Col. Roi Danino, a candidate for the Israel First party, reserve Major Ariel Averbuch, and content editor Hagai Gutman. It mirrors the style of the original 80-minute documentary "NAZA," which examines civilian casualties in Gaza and includes interviews with Israeli military intelligence officers.

The rebuttal film presents testimonies from IDF officers who say Hamas fighters operated from civilian locations such as homes, schools and hospitals, and that the Israeli military followed strict rules of engagement. Its website claims the documentary has been viewed by more than 20 million people.

The Israeli Embassy in the United States shared a link to the film on X, describing it as an effort to "set the record straight." The Israeli Defense Forces previously criticized the original "NAZA" documentary, calling it manipulative and factually inaccurate. No comment was provided by the directors of the original film or by The Guardian, which co-produced it.

The Jerusalem Post noted that the rebuttal aims to reach policymakers and journalists through digital influencers and grassroots networks, framing the dispute as a contest over the historical narrative of the conflict.
