Jalen Duren signs five-year extension and affirms commitment to Pistons

Summary

After a prolonged contract negotiation, Detroit Pistons forward Jalen Duren signed a five-year, $200 million extension and said he intends to remain with the team for his career.

Detroit forward Jalen Duren held a press conference on Oct. 4 at the Pistons' practice facility, announcing a five-year, $200 million contract extension. The 22-year-old expressed relief at concluding the negotiations and reiterated his desire to spend his entire career in Detroit.

"I am a Detroit Piston. I want to be a Detroit Piston for life and give everything I have to the city and the fans," Duren said, adding that he believes in the organization’s direction and asks fans to trust his work ethic.

Duren addressed recent media speculation that he might consider other teams, stating that such reports were unfounded and that he has built lasting relationships in Detroit. He emphasized that the narratives were media-driven and not reflective of his own statements.

The player reflected on his playoff performance, noting a drop in scoring from his regular-season average and describing the experience as humbling. He said he plans to improve his shooting, conditioning and defensive awareness during the offseason.

The contract was finalized just before the deadline to accept a qualifying offer, after Duren missed media day and the first days of training camp. Pistons president Trajan Langdon and head coach J.B. Bickerstaff said the delay was part of the business of the league. Duren expressed enthusiasm about rejoining teammates and the new additions to the roster.

"Longer than any of us wanted, but we have reached a good outcome. I’m happy to be back with my coaches and teammates and ready to focus on the future," he said.
