Summary

The re-release of Marvel's Avengers: Endgame has again surpassed Avatar to become the highest-grossing film worldwide, with a total gross of $2.9255 billion.

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Endgame has reclaimed the title of the highest-grossing movie ever, edging out James Cameron's Avatar with a cumulative worldwide gross of $2.9255 billion compared with Avatar's $2.9237 billion. The new total comes after the film's recent re-release, titled "Avengers: Endgame Encore," which was timed ahead of the upcoming multiverse sequel scheduled for December 18.

During its second weekend, the Encore version earned $4.4 million in the United States, an 81 percent drop from the $26.1 million it made the previous weekend. The domestic cumulative total now stands at $894.6 million, placing it third on the all-time list behind Spider-Man: No Way Home and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Internationally, the film has accumulated $2.03 billion, ranking second on the Motion Picture Association’s all-time box-office chart.

Endgame Encore performed strongly in several overseas markets, topping box-office charts in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Ecuador and Bolivia. In its second global weekend, the re-release generated $18.8 million, with $14.4 million coming from 52 territories. To date, the re-release has added $126 million to the film’s overall earnings, including $36.2 million from the United States and $89.8 million from foreign markets.

The re-release also set records for the highest-grossing re-issue in Latin America, with notable earnings in Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Paraguay, as well as in Malaysia, India and Indonesia. The upcoming multiverse sequel will open on the same weekend as Paramount, Warner Bros. and Legendary's Dune: Part Three, a matchup expected to draw significant audience attention.
