Opendoor Appoints Kaz Nejatian as CEO; Co-Founders Return to Board
Opendoor Technologies has named Kaz Nejatian as its new CEO, with co-founders Keith Rabois and Eric Wu rejoining the board, signaling a strategic shift towards AI-driven real estate solutions.
Opendoor Technologies has appointed Kaz Nejatian, former Chief Operating Officer at Shopify, as its new Chief Executive Officer. Nejatian, who also has experience at Meta and as founder of fintech company Kash, expressed his vision for the company, stating, "With AI, we have the tools to make that experience radically simpler, faster, and more certain. That's the future we're building."
In addition to Nejatian's appointment, Opendoor announced that co-founders Keith Rabois and Eric Wu are rejoining the board of directors. Rabois will assume the role of Chairman, while Wu, who co-founded Opendoor in 2013, returns after launching his own AI startup, NavigateAI.
The company also disclosed that Khosla Ventures and Eric Wu are investing $40 million in Opendoor shares, underscoring their commitment to the company's next phase.
These leadership changes come after the resignation of former CEO Carrie Wheeler in August, following investor pressure and a period of stock volatility.
Opendoor's stock has experienced significant fluctuations, with shares surging over 200% in the past month, partly due to interest from investors like EMJ Capital and retail investors on Reddit's "Wall Street Bets" forum.
The company continues to focus on its core services, including Cash Offer, Key Connections, and Cash Plus, while emphasizing the integration of AI to enhance the real estate transaction experience.
