49ers owner Jed York receives six-game suspension and $500,000 fine
The NFL suspended San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York for six regular-season games and imposed a $500,000 fine after he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools charges.
The league announced that Jed York, principal owner of the San Francisco 49ers, will miss six regular-season games and pay a $500,000 fine for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. York had already been absent for the first three games of the season while the investigation was ongoing, and those games count toward his suspension. He is eligible to return on Oct. 20, when the 49ers face Atlanta in Week 7.
York’s arrest stemmed from a suspicion of engaging in prostitution, and he later pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct and possession of criminal tools. In a statement, York said he will accept the league’s decision in full and expressed remorse to his family, the team’s personnel, fans, and partners.
"To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry," York said.
The 49ers have begun the season with a 3-0 record in York’s absence.
