Apple adds AI-enhanced wallpaper tools and movable clock to iOS 27 Lock Screen
iOS 27 introduces AI-driven wallpaper extensions, on-device image generation and a repositionable clock, while also allowing users to dismiss the Now Playing widget on the Lock Screen.
Apple's iOS 27 update expands customization options for the iPhone Lock Screen. A new "Extend" feature uses artificial intelligence to add content around the edges of photos, helping users fit images to the screen's aspect ratio without cropping. The same AI capability is integrated into the Image Playground app, enabling users to generate stylized wallpapers or create new images from natural-language prompts directly from the wallpaper picker.
The update also lets users shrink and move the clock to the top row of widgets, freeing more space for background images. Additionally, the Now Playing widget can be swiped away, though audio playback continues uninterrupted.
"iOS 27 finally lets you shrink the clock on your iPhone’s Lock Screen," a spokesperson noted, highlighting the added flexibility for displaying wallpapers.
These changes aim to give users greater control over the visual layout of their devices.
