Caitlin Clark and Brianna Turner each receive double technical fouls in early minutes of WNBA Game 3
Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Las Vegas Aces forward Brianna Turner were assessed offsetting double technical fouls with 6:54 left in the first quarter of Game 3, marking Clark's second postseason technical and triggering fines under WNBA rules.
Two offsetting double technical fouls were called early in Game 3 of the first-round series between the Las Vegas Aces and Indiana Fever on Thursday, Oct. 1. The fouls were assessed with 6:54 remaining in the first quarter to Fever guard Caitlin Clark and Aces forward/center Brianna Turner.
The incident followed a foul on Aces center A'ja Wilson by Fever forward Lexie Hull, which sent Wilson into the stanchion and prompted a referee review. While officials reviewed the play, the Fever's starting lineup gathered in a huddle; Turner joined the group and was pushed out by Clark, leading to the technical calls. The offsetting nature of the fouls meant no free throws were awarded.
"Clark's second technical of the postseason puts her two fouls away from a possible suspension," the league's technical-foul guidelines state.
Under WNBA postseason rules, a fourth technical results in an automatic one-game suspension, with each additional technical incurring a $1,500 fine. Clark will be fined $500 for this second postseason technical. She finished the regular season with seven technicals, narrowly avoiding a suspension that would have been triggered by an eighth.
The league retains the authority to rescind any technical or flagrant foul assessed during a game. Earlier in the series, Clark received a technical in Game 2 after an offensive foul, and A'ja Wilson was later cleared of further discipline for an unsportsmanlike-conduct incident involving a fan.
