Police Conducted Welfare Check at Hayden Panettiere's Home Days Before Her Death

Summary

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies responded to a welfare check request at the actress' West Hollywood apartment on Aug. 9, a week before she died of a drug overdose on Aug. 16.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies received a call at 10 p.m. on Aug. 9 requesting a welfare check on a woman at a West Hollywood apartment. The caller said the resident was not answering the phone. Police arrived and were told the woman had been "sick all day and did not feel good," according to a redacted report. A source said the actress' boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, answered the door.

The same 911 report shows two earlier police visits to the residence in 2025. On Aug. 4, officers were alerted to a white male in a green polo who was attempting to enter a unit on the third floor; the individual left before police arrived. On Sept. 8, deputies responded to an incident involving an unidentified white male in the building's garage who refused to leave, later reporting that the male took some belongings and departed.

Hayden Panettiere died on Aug. 16 in a South Carolina Airbnb from the toxic effects of multiple drugs, including fentanyl. Hickerson, who has a history of arrests and prior admissions of abusive behavior toward Panettiere, was present at the scene. Earlier reports indicated the actress had entered a Malibu treatment facility for two to three weeks before her death and had reconnected with Hickerson in the weeks prior.
