S&P 500 Hits Record High Amid Oracle's AI-Driven Surge
The S&P 500 reached a new record high, driven by Oracle's significant stock increase following optimistic AI-related revenue forecasts.
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the S&P 500 rose 0.3% to close at a record 6,532.04, marking its second consecutive day of record highs. The Nasdaq Composite edged up 0.1% to 21,886.06, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.5% to 45,490.92.
Oracle's stock surged approximately 36% to $328.33, reaching an all-time high. This increase followed the company's announcement of a $300 billion deal with OpenAI for computing power over five years, contributing to a total of four multi-billion-dollar agreements. Oracle's market capitalization rose by about $234 billion, nearing the trillion-dollar mark.
The surge in Oracle's stock elevated co-founder Larry Ellison's net worth to approximately $392.6 billion, positioning him close to Elon Musk as one of the world's richest individuals.
Other technology stocks also experienced gains. Broadcom's shares increased by 9.8% after approving a long-term equity award for CEO Hock Tan, linking his compensation to the company's success in the AI sector. Utilities like Vistra and Constellation Energy saw their shares rise by 8% and 6.4%, respectively, as they aimed to leverage their nuclear facilities to meet the growing energy demands of AI data centers.
Conversely, Synopsys' shares plummeted 36% following a miss on quarterly sales and adjusted profit estimates, along with a lower-than-expected guidance for the current quarter. The Trade Desk's shares declined by 12% after a downgrade by Morgan Stanley, citing challenges in the company's connected TV business.
The market's performance was also influenced by a report indicating an unexpected decline in wholesale inflation, suggesting moderating price pressures ahead of the Consumer Price Index release.
