Boeing and IAM Union Reach Tentative Agreement to End Strike
Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers have reached a tentative five-year agreement, potentially ending a five-week strike involving approximately 3,200 defense workers in the St. Louis area.
Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) have reached a tentative five-year agreement, potentially ending a five-week strike involving approximately 3,200 defense workers in the St. Louis area. The strike began on August 4 after 67% of union members rejected Boeing's earlier contract proposal. The new tentative contract includes average wage increases of 45%, surpassing the 40% compensation increase in the previously rejected four-year offer. Boeing Defense Vice President Dan Gillian expressed optimism about the deal and urged union members to approve it. A vote on the proposal is scheduled for Friday. This development comes after Boeing had announced plans to hire replacement workers on September 4.
