Police Investigate Death of Presley Gerber After Admission to Santa Monica Sober-Living Residence
Presley Gerber was found dead at a sober-living home in Santa Monica on Sept. 20. Police are treating the case as a suspected overdose while the medical examiner has deferred the official cause of death.
Santa Monica police are investigating the death of 27-year-old Presley Gerber, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber, as a suspected overdose after he was found unresponsive at a sober-living residence on Sept. 20. Paramedics pronounced him dead at 9:45 a.m., and a deputy medical examiner has deferred the official cause and manner of death pending further testing.
According to multiple sources, a member of Gerber’s sober-team contacted the residence, Resolutions Living, on the afternoon of Sept. 19 to ask whether the facility would accept him while he was under the influence of an unidentified substance. Staff reportedly instructed the caller to bring him in, and Gerber arrived later that evening still appearing intoxicated. He was found unresponsive the following morning.
Resolutions Living is classified as a recovery residence rather than a licensed residential treatment center, meaning it does not provide medical detoxification or treatment planning and is not subject to the same state licensing requirements. The California Department of Health Care Services confirmed it has no record of the property operating as a licensed substance-use disorder treatment facility.
Addiction-treatment operator Nick Mathews, who runs a separate drug-treatment center, said that individuals actively using substances should not be admitted to a sober-living environment that lacks the capacity to manage detoxification. No regulatory finding has been issued indicating that the residence violated any law or medical standard.
Gerber had publicly discussed his struggles with addiction and his participation in mental-health initiatives earlier in the year, including a March Instagram video about preparing for ibogaine treatment and a June appearance with his parents at a mental-health event in Malibu. Sources have mentioned that an unidentified doctor had been prescribing ketamine to Gerber, though toxicology results have not confirmed the presence of the drug.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office has not yet released a definitive cause of death, and investigators have found no evidence of foul play.
