Queens’ Democratic socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani made it clear on Jimmy Kimmel’s show that he’s more interested in pushing massive housing projects and defending special interests than engaging meaningfully with President Trump.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a self-described Democratic socialist from Queens, revealed to host Jimmy Kimmel that his communications with President Donald Trump are limited and strictly focused on left-wing priorities like the Sunnyside Yard development and advocating for Haitian New Yorkers, whose protected status was recently revoked. Instead of seeking common ground, Mamdani is pushing for federal approval of the Sunnyside Yard project, which would bring 12,000 new housing units and an estimated 30,000 jobs—an ambitious plan that raises questions about government overreach and the real beneficiaries of such developments.
When Kimmel suggested a friendly selfie exchange via text, Mamdani dismissed the idea, saying, "Jimmy, I love you, but I love housing more," signaling that he values his radical housing agenda over building a productive relationship with the president.
Kimmel also played a clip of President Trump’s recent meeting with New York City Mayor Eric Adams at Gracie Mansion, noting Trump’s leadership presence. Mamdani, however, remained fixated on his policy talking points, showing little interest in bipartisan cooperation or personal diplomacy.
