White House AI Summit Leads to Executive Order Renaming Artificial Intelligence
President Trump signed an order renaming artificial intelligence to “Super Intelligence” and announced a voluntary industry accord on safety and transparency after a meeting with top AI executives.
President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Tuesday that directs federal agencies to refer to artificial intelligence as “Super Intelligence.” The order, issued after a White House roundtable with leading AI companies, states that the new terminology better reflects the technologies’ transformative capabilities and the opportunities they create for Americans. Agencies have 60 days to draft legislative language defining “Super Intelligence” and the abbreviation “SI” in federal law.
The meeting also produced a voluntary “White House Accord on Super Intelligence,” signed by executives from Meta, OpenAI, Anthropic, Nvidia and other firms. The accord outlines internal controls, external audits and board oversight intended to increase transparency and mitigate risks from autonomous AI agents. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the agreement aims to give the public confidence that the technology works as intended and includes multiple layers of auditing.
House Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the need to balance innovation with safety and to maintain U.S. competitiveness against China. He called for voluntary industry oversight rather than “hyperregulation.”
Separately, the Federal Trade Commission highlighted that legal liability for AI harms rests with developers and users, not the technology itself. The FTC chair noted that new questions will arise when AI tools produce unexpected results.
The administration also unveiled an AI-powered website, America.gov, designed to consolidate federal services in a single online portal.
