South Park episode satirizes AI data centers with Butters as focal point

Resumen

The animated series returns after a two-week break with a new episode that lampoons the resource-intensive AI data centers being built by tech billionaires, featuring Butters as the central character.

Comedy Central will air a new episode of the long-running animated series on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT, with streaming available on Paramount+ after the broadcast. The episode, part of season 29 and titled "South America," follows the character Butters as he expresses displeasure over AI data centers being constructed in residential neighborhoods.

The storyline appears to target the growing environmental and resource concerns linked to large-scale AI infrastructure, and it may include cameo appearances by well-known Silicon Valley figures such as Sam Altman, Mark Zuckerberg or Elon Musk. The show has previously referenced tech personalities, including Peter Thiel, who appeared in a season-28 episode.

"Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to ‘SOUTH AMERICA.'" – a statement from creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone in a September 8 press release.

The episode continues the series' tradition of using satire to comment on contemporary issues, shifting focus from political topics to the tech industry’s impact on society.
