Microsoft launches Windows 11 2026 Update (version 26H2)

Summary

Microsoft has made the Windows 11 2026 Update, version 26H2, generally available, describing it as a lightweight, low-disruption enablement package that resets the support clock.

Microsoft announced the general availability of the Windows 11 2026 Update, identified as version 26H2. The update builds on the same code base used for versions 25H2 and 24H2, acting as an enablement package that activates features already delivered through monthly servicing updates.

"Windows 11, version 26H2 brings together all the Windows innovations, security improvements, and enhancements delivered over the past year to version 25H2," Microsoft said.

The company says the update is lightweight, requiring only a few minutes to download and install, and it poses no compatibility issues. It also restarts the support lifecycle, granting Home and Pro editions 24 months of security and feature updates, while commercial editions receive 36 months.

Version 26H2 is being rolled out in waves, but users can accelerate receipt by enabling the "Get the latest Windows updates when they're available" setting. Devices running version 26H1 cannot upgrade directly to 26H2 because they are based on a newer platform.
