President Trump to convene AI summit with tech CEOs in Washington
President Donald Trump will host a White House lunch with nearly 20 leading artificial-intelligence executives, while also unveiling an AI-driven government portal, America.gov.
President Donald Trump is set to host a White House lunch on Tuesday that will bring together about 20 senior executives from major artificial-intelligence and technology companies, including Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Sundar Pichai, Satya Nadella, Lisa Su and OpenAI’s Greg Brockman, a White House official said.
The meeting will be attended by Speaker Mike Johnson, Vice President JD Vance, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. In a separate event at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium, Trump introduced America.gov, an AI-powered website and chatbot intended to serve as a single access point for federal services.
Trump has repeatedly argued that the United States must maintain a lead over China in AI development and has dismissed calls for extensive regulation. "Whoever wins AI … wins," he told the United Nations General Assembly last week.
Speaker Johnson, who helped organize the summit, said existing product-liability laws are sufficient and warned against a moratorium on AI development. "We do not need to jump in and hyper-regulate this, because we’ll lose the race to China," he said on Fox Business.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune will not attend the lunch but met privately with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei earlier in the day, expressing hope that the gathering would be productive.
America.gov was developed by the White House’s National Design Studio, led by Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia, and uses AI models such as Gemini and Grok. Trump described the portal as a "front door" for government information, promising faster, easier access for citizens.
Other officials present included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz. Additional tech leaders expected to attend were SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown and Blue Origin CEO Dave Limp.
