Israel Orders Evacuation of Gaza City Ahead of Planned Ground Offensive
The Israeli military has instructed all residents of Gaza City to evacuate immediately, signaling a forthcoming ground operation targeting Hamas strongholds.
On September 9, 2025, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) issued an evacuation order for all residents of Gaza City, urging them to move southward ahead of an anticipated ground offensive aimed at dismantling Hamas operations in the area.
IDF spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that the military is determined to defeat Hamas and will operate in Gaza City with significant force. He warned civilians that remaining in the area is extremely dangerous and provided a phone number for reporting any Hamas attempts to prevent evacuation.
The evacuation order has led to widespread panic among Gaza City's residents. Many face challenges in relocating due to financial constraints and overcrowding in the southern regions of the Gaza Strip. Some residents have expressed reluctance to leave, believing that no place within the enclave is safe.
In recent days, the IDF has intensified airstrikes on Gaza City, targeting high-rise buildings it claims are used by Hamas for military purposes. Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that if Hamas does not disarm and release hostages, Gaza will be razed.
The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties and displacement. According to Gaza's health ministry, over 62,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war began in October 2023, with most of Gaza's population displaced.
International mediators, including Qatar, are actively working to negotiate a ceasefire and address the humanitarian crisis. However, the situation remains volatile as Israel prepares for a potential ground invasion of Gaza City.
