Taylor Swift skips Travis Kelce's first away game to prepare for MTV VMAs
Singer Taylor Swift did not attend the Kansas City Chiefs' game in Miami, citing a demanding schedule that includes the MTV Video Music Awards later that night.
Taylor Swift was not present at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens for the Kansas City Chiefs' matchup against the Miami Dolphins, the team's first away game of the season. The pop star is slated to travel to Los Angeles later in the day for the MTV Video Music Awards, where she has received 11 nominations and will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors award.
Swift has previously attended the first two home games of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce this season, but she has not been seen at any away games in recent years, a pattern she attributes to heightened security concerns associated with traveling to out-of-town venues.
In a 2025 interview on Kelce's podcast, the singer said she initially knew little about football but grew to enjoy the sport after dating the player. Kelce later remarked on a subsequent podcast episode that Swift now follows game details closely.
"She knows the flags and penalties now," Kelce said during the September 18 episode of the show.
Swift's absence from the Miami game aligns with her stated priority of preparing for the awards ceremony, which is scheduled for the evening in Los Angeles.
