Anthropic chief Dario Amodei to meet Trump at White House dinner
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei will have a private dinner with President Donald Trump on Sunday, a meeting arranged after he missed Thursday's state dinner for Chinese President Xi.
Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei is scheduled to attend a private dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House on Sunday, CNBC reported. The invitation follows Amodei's absence from Thursday's state dinner for Chinese President Xi Jinping, which was attended by several other technology leaders.
The meeting comes as Anthropic prepares for a highly anticipated initial public offering and seeks to improve a strained relationship with the Trump administration. A White House official said, "President Trump has been clear: America will lead the world in Super Intelligence, while protecting American consumers. We will drive innovation, strengthen American competitiveness, and ensure this transformative technology works for the American people."
Amodei had earlier called for a slowdown in advanced AI development and greater government oversight, a stance that drew criticism from Trump, who posted on Truth Social that the administration was preventing “bad” AI activity. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick indicated that Anthropic is now “back on the right side,” and the Office of Science and Technology Policy said the company is in “good cadence” with the administration and is sharing models under a voluntary AI executive order.
Relations with the Department of Defense remain contentious. After negotiations over military use of Anthropic’s models broke down in February, the Pentagon labeled the firm a supply-chain risk, barring its technology from defense contracts. An appeals court upheld the designation, prompting Anthropic to consider further legal action. Defense officials publicly defended the ruling, describing Anthropic as a risk to national security.
