Florida jumps to No. 8 in AP Top 25 as four teams enter rankings
Florida vaulted to No. 8 in the Associated Press poll, its highest spot since 2020, while Texas, Georgia and Notre Dame retained the top three positions and four new teams entered the Top 25.
Florida surged 13 places in the Associated Press Top 25 after a 24-point victory over No. 4 Ole Miss, moving to No. 8, the program’s highest ranking since 2020 and its first top-10 finish since 2021. Texas, Georgia and Notre Dame kept the top three slots, with Miami reaching a season-high No. 4 and Ohio State climbing to No. 5. Indiana, Alabama, Ole Miss and BYU completed the top-10.
Texas earned 62 first-place votes, four more than the previous week, following a 20-17 road win over Tennessee. Georgia received six first-place votes after a dominant win over Oklahoma and an average margin of 41.5 points per game. Miami and Indiana each secured one first-place vote.
Mississippi State rose eight spots to No. 16 after defeating Missouri, while Oregon moved up five spots to No. 15 after a road win at USC, and Houston advanced to No. 20 after beating Georgia Southern. Iowa, at No. 14, achieved its best ranking since 2021 after a last-play victory at Michigan.
Four teams dropped out of the poll: Penn State, Michigan, Louisville and Texas A&M. Penn State fell from No. 13 to unranked after a loss to Wisconsin.
Oklahoma State re-entered the Top 25 at No. 19, its first appearance in two years, after a win at West Virginia. Boise State broke into the rankings at No. 22, its first Top 25 spot since the 2025 preseason poll, following a 25-point win at Western Michigan. UCLA returned at No. 23 after a 51-point road victory over Maryland, and Kentucky entered at No. 24 after wins over Texas A&M and South Alabama.
Florida’s jump was the largest since LSU moved 14 spots in 2018. The Big 12 now has five teams in the Top 25, the most since October 2025 and only the sixth occurrence of that many in the 2020s. Georgia marked its 700th appearance in the poll, the tenth-most all time, while Alabama recorded its 300th consecutive Top 25 appearance, the longest active streak.
