Two Giant Pandas Arrive at Zoo Atlanta for Quarantine
Male Ping Ping and female Fu Shuang were flown from China to Atlanta and will spend about a month in a biosecure facility before being introduced to the public.
Two giant pandas, a male named Ping Ping and a female named Fu Shuang, arrived at Zoo Atlanta after a flight from China, officials said. The animals will be housed in a biosecure panda complex for a quarantine period of roughly one month while they acclimate to their new environment.
"The pandas are now in quarantine and will be ready for public viewing after the period ends," a zoo spokesperson said. The pair were born in 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. They are the fifth and sixth pandas to be sent to the United States since earlier pandas were returned to China. Zoo Atlanta is one of three U.S. zoos currently hosting pandas. The arrival revives a partnership between the zoo and China that began in 1999 with the introduction of earlier pandas Yang Yang and Lun Lun, which lasted until their return to China in October 2024.
