Chris Hansen comments on A24 thriller "Primetime" after private screening

Summary

Chris Hansen said the film felt detached from his real investigations, while lead actor Robert Pattinson hopes the movie serves as a compliment to Hansen's work.

Chris Hansen, known for his former "To Catch a Predator" series, posted a video on X after attending a private screening of A24’s thriller "Primetime," directed by Lance Oppenheim. He described the movie as feeling "so bizarre and so in-and-out of reality" and noted that, because the main character is based on him, he could not be objective. Hansen added that the portrayal was "detached from reality or anything I’ve experienced then or now doing the investigations" and questioned the film’s purpose.

Robert Pattinson, who plays a fictionalized version of Hansen, said at the Venice Film Festival that he hopes the film will be taken as "some kind of compliment" from those he has inspired. Hansen’s reaction follows earlier reports that he considered legal action and purchased advertising space to promote his true-crime streaming service TruBlu ahead of the film’s release.

Earlier, Hansen said he was invited to an advanced screening but was asked to sign a standard non-disclosure agreement, which he declined, resulting in his exclusion from that particular showing.
