Six Killed in Jerusalem Bus Stop Shooting; Israeli Officials Vow Response
Two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a Jerusalem bus stop, killing six people and injuring several others. Israeli authorities have pledged a strong response to the attack.
On Monday morning, two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a bus stop in northern Jerusalem, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuries to at least twelve others. The attack occurred during peak hours at the Ramot Junction on Yigal Street, a location leading to East Jerusalem.
Israeli emergency services reported that the assailants arrived by car and began shooting at civilians waiting at the bus stop. An Israeli soldier and armed civilians at the scene returned fire, killing both attackers. A third suspect was later arrested by police.
The victims included a 50-year-old man, a woman in her fifties, and three men in their thirties. At least eleven others were injured, with six in serious condition.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited the scene and convened a security assessment. He stated, "We are pursuing and encircling the villages from which the terrorists came. We will reach everyone who assisted them, who sent them, and we will take even harsher measures."
Hamas praised the attack, describing it as a "heroic operation" and a "natural response to the occupation's crimes and war of extermination."
This incident is among the deadliest in Israel since October 2024 and occurs amid escalating violence in the region. Israeli forces have intensified operations in Gaza City, urging residents to evacuate as military activities expand. Additionally, Hamas is reportedly assessing a new U.S.-brokered ceasefire proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
