Dolly Parton's manager files lawsuit against nephew amid family dispute

Summary

Manager Donny Nozell sued nephew Bryan Seaver, alleging extortion and threats, while family members say the estate remains united after Parton's death.

Manager Donny Nozell has filed a lawsuit seeking a restraining order against Bryan Seaver, Dolly Parton's nephew and former head of security, claiming Seaver attempted extortion and made violent threats. The complaint cites messages in which Seaver allegedly referenced his "military-contractor experience" and warned that "her money better be bigger than I can make elsewhere."

Seaver responded to the allegations, telling a media outlet that the messages were private conversations with Nozell and not threats, adding that they were "rage talk" during a period of grief. He also said he stands by most of his comments.

The legal action follows Seaver's dismissal from his security role at Parton's Nashville estate shortly after the singer's death in August. New security teams have been installed at her residences and related properties.

Family members have publicly expressed support for Seaver and emphasized unity. Freida Parton wrote that no family member is fighting over the estate, while Stella Parton noted that families face challenges but remain intact for the sake of their children and grandchildren.

"We remain unshakably resolved to fulfill [Parton’s] final directive to protect her family, and we refuse to be intimidated by those whose actions we believe are being taken in bad faith and with the intent to profit from the life of someone who willingly gave so much," Seaver said.

The dispute highlights ongoing tensions within the Parton estate as it navigates legal and security matters after Dolly Parton's passing.
