Two arrested after police find dozens of partially clothed men in Wisconsin fraternity basement
Madison police arrested two men on hazing and disorderly conduct charges after discovering about 30 partially clothed individuals covered in food and liquids in the basement of an unaccredited fraternity house.
Madison police said an anonymous tip led officers to the basement of an unaccredited Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, where they encountered roughly 30 men, most of them 18, partially clothed and covered in food, condiments and other liquids. The space was reported to be warm, with the thermostat set to 81 degrees, and several individuals displayed visible injuries that police said were consistent with physical abuse.
Two 20-year-olds, identified as Brayden J. Klein and Samuel N. Vane, were taken into custody on charges of hazing and disorderly conduct and booked into the Dane County Jail. Police noted that the fraternity’s president and vice president were present and spoke with officers, though it was not confirmed whether the arrested individuals held those positions.
The men were escorted out of the basement, examined for incapacitation and injuries, and no additional charges have been announced. Authorities continue to investigate, urging anyone with information to contact the Madison Police Department.
Alpha Epsilon Pi, which operates without university recognition, said the national organization is "extremely serious" about the allegations and will cooperate fully with the investigation. A spokesperson added that members found responsible for criminal conduct will be expelled from the fraternity.
The University of Wisconsin also opened an investigation under its non-academic misconduct process and is providing support services to affected students. Police reminded the public that anyone whose safety is compromised during Greek-life recruitment should report the incident to authorities.
