Russia Launches Largest Drone and Missile Attack on Ukraine, Striking Kyiv Government Building
Russia conducted its most extensive aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying over 800 drones and multiple missiles, resulting in casualties and significant damage, including a hit on Kyiv's government building.
In the early hours of Sunday, Russia executed its most extensive aerial assault on Ukraine since the onset of the conflict, launching over 800 drones and multiple missiles targeting various regions, including the capital, Kyiv. The attack resulted in at least four fatalities, including a mother and her infant, and injured over 20 individuals. Notably, a government building in central Kyiv sustained damage, marking the first such incident since the war began. Residential areas and cities such as Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, and Kremenchuk were also affected. Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted the majority of the drones and several missiles, yet significant destruction occurred. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault, urging Western allies to enhance air defense support and impose stricter sanctions on Russia. Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha emphasized the need to cut off Russian oil and gas revenues to hinder its war capabilities. In response, Ukrainian forces targeted the Druzhba oil pipeline in Russia's Bryansk region, aiming to disrupt energy supplies. The European Union is considering a full ban on Russian energy imports by 2028, though internal resistance persists.
