Bears undecided on starting quarterback for Monday night game

Summary

Injuries to Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent leave the Chicago Bears uncertain about their Week 3 starter, with veteran Case Keenum practicing as a possible option.

The Chicago Bears have not yet determined which quarterback will start Monday night against Philadelphia after injuries sidelined both Caleb Williams and Tyson Bagent. Head coach Ben Johnson said the team has three capable players at the position and will decide closer to game time. > "We’ve got three guys that can play ball in this league, that have won games in this league," Johnson said at Wednesday’s press conference, adding that Case Keenum is currently practicing and will be evaluated further.

Williams suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and was not scheduled to practice on Wednesday, though he participated in the team walk-through. Bagent was placed in concussion protocol on Tuesday after showing concussion symptoms, and his availability remains uncertain. Johnson confirmed the Bears will not add another quarterback for the week.

Keenum, who has not appeared in a regular-season game since 2023, is described by Johnson as a veteran who brings a coaching perspective and a strong understanding of the game. > "He’s at the point of his career where he’s like another coach in a lot of ways," Johnson said, expressing confidence in Keenum’s ability to lead the offense.

The Bears will release their first injury report for the week on Thursday.
