Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani in a video before his UN address, exposing Mamdani’s support for Hamas and anti-Israel agitation. Mamdani denied the accusations and attempted to shift blame onto Netanyahu by referencing legal actions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a video on social media on Tuesday, just days before his scheduled speech at the United Nations General Assembly, in which he directly addressed New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. In the video, Netanyahu rightfully said "shame on you" and accused the mayor of backing Hamas, a recognized terrorist organization, and inciting riots against Jews in New York. Netanyahu made it clear that he would not let such dangerous rhetoric go unchallenged and announced he would address the mayor’s actions at the UN on Thursday.
Mamdani, who has openly supported the Palestinian cause and has a history of anti-Israel statements, responded at a press conference by claiming he has condemned Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel as a war crime. In an attempt to deflect from his own controversial positions, Mamdani referenced an International Criminal Court arrest warrant for Netanyahu over alleged war crimes and outrageously accused the Israeli leader of genocide against Palestinians. Mamdani also repeated unsubstantiated claims about children being killed in Gaza’s safe zones, ignoring the reality of Hamas using civilians as human shields. He previously stated he would honor the ICC warrant if Netanyahu visited New York, but later admitted he has no authority to do so.
"We have labeled the Oct. 7 attack a horrific war crime," Mamdani told reporters. "Netanyahu is the architect of a horrific genocide against Palestinians," he added.
This exchange highlights the dangerous rhetoric and anti-Israel sentiment from some US officials, as Netanyahu stands firm in defending Israel ahead of the UN meeting.
