Eagles face Bears in Week 3 as Chicago's rushing attack and quarterback uncertainty loom
Philadelphia, 2-0, meets Chicago, whose top rushers have already led the league, while the Bears may be without their starting quarterback.
The Philadelphia Eagles enter Week 3 with a 2-0 record and will travel to Chicago to play the Bears, who posted the league's leading rushing offense in the first two weeks. Chicago’s ground game, anchored by D’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai, has produced 316 yards combined, and the team typically relies on quarterback Caleb Williams to add to the rush. Williams suffered a low-grade hamstring strain in Week 2 and is expected to miss the game, while backup Tyson Bagent is in concussion protocol. If neither is available, veteran Case Keenum could start for the Bears.
Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio acknowledged the challenge, noting the Bears’ strong offensive line and running backs and emphasizing the need for improved run defense. Philadelphia has allowed 127 yards per game on the ground, ranking 24th in the league, and gave up a 27-yard run on a critical third-down play last Sunday.
Chicago’s offensive line features a rotating left tackle position after Ozzy Trapilo’s injury, with Jones and Theo Benedet filling in. The rest of the line, including guards Thuney and Jackson and tackle Wright, is expected to test the Eagles’ interior line, which has struggled with injuries to Landon Dickerson and adjustments at center.
On the defensive side, the Bears’ cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Tyrique Stevenson have posted a combined passer rating of 141.7 allowed to opponents, according to PFF, while the Eagles rely on receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks to complement quarterback Jalen Hurts.
Both teams will look to address early-season shortcomings as they vie for a pivotal win that could shape their playoff trajectories.
