Zelenskyy urges Trump to arrange trilateral talks with Putin to seek war end and energy ceasefire

Resumen

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked U.S. President Donald Trump to convene a three-way meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, offering an energy ceasefire if Russia halts attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told U.S. President Donald Trump that a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin should be organized as quickly as possible to discuss ending the conflict. Zelenskyy made the appeal after speaking with Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

He said Kyiv is prepared to accept an "energy ceasefire" provided Russia stops targeting Ukrainian energy, electricity, heating and water facilities. Zelenskyy also emphasized the need for additional U.S. air-defence support, citing a winter package of Patriot missiles and licences for domestic production as priorities.

"President Trump, our teams, and I spoke about how to end the war. This is the priority. We are ready. I'm not sure Russia is ready as of today, but anyhow, we spoke about an energy ceasefire," Zelenskyy posted on social media.

Trump responded that he had discussed possible solutions with Zelenskyy and reiterated his intention to facilitate the proposed meeting. He added, "We will get that one done."

Zelenskyy also suggested involving Chinese President Xi Jinping, stating that Xi could influence Putin and that coordinated effort by all three leaders would be necessary to end the war. The Ukrainian president said he is ready to meet with both Trump and Putin whenever all parties are prepared.

The White House and Russia’s embassy have not yet commented on the proposal.
