Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has requested U.S. President Donald Trump to arrange a three-way meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, proposing an energy ceasefire if Russia halts strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, under mounting pressure from the ongoing conflict, has turned to U.S. President Donald Trump, urging him to quickly organize a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ending hostilities. Zelenskyy’s request followed a discussion with Trump at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the Ukrainian leader sought support from the U.S. establishment.
Zelenskyy indicated that Kyiv is prepared to accept an 'energy ceasefire'—a significant concession—if Russia agrees to stop targeting Ukrainian energy, electricity, heating, and water infrastructure. He also pressed for more U.S. air-defense aid, including a winter package of Patriot missiles and licenses for domestic production, further deepening Ukraine’s reliance on American military support.
'President Trump, our teams, and I spoke about how to end the war. This is the priority. We are ready. I'm not sure Russia is ready as of today, but anyhow, we spoke about an energy ceasefire,' Zelenskyy posted on social media, casting doubt on Russia’s willingness to negotiate.
Trump responded by stating he had discussed possible solutions with Zelenskyy and reaffirmed his intention to facilitate the proposed meeting, saying, 'We will get that one done.'
Zelenskyy also suggested involving Chinese President Xi Jinping, arguing that Xi could influence Putin and that a coordinated effort by all three leaders would be necessary to end the war. The Ukrainian president said he is ready to meet with both Trump and Putin whenever all parties are prepared.
The White House and Russia’s embassy have not yet commented on the proposal, as the U.S. administration remains on the sidelines while Zelenskyy seeks new avenues for negotiation.
