Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appealed to U.S. President Donald Trump to urgently convene a trilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin, offering an energy ceasefire if Russia ceases its brutal campaign against Ukraine’s vital infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, representing a nation devastated by imperialist aggression, urged U.S. President Donald Trump to immediately organize a trilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate an end to the war that has ravaged Ukraine. Zelenskyy’s plea came after a conversation with Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where world leaders gathered to address global crises.
Zelenskyy stated that Kyiv is willing to accept an 'energy ceasefire'—a crucial step to protect Ukrainian civilians from the ongoing destruction of energy, electricity, heating, and water facilities by Russian forces. He underscored the urgent need for additional U.S. air-defense support, specifically calling for a winter package of Patriot missiles and licenses for domestic production, to defend Ukraine’s people from continued attacks.
'President Trump, our teams, and I spoke about how to end the war. This is the priority. We are ready. I'm not sure Russia is ready as of today, but anyhow, we spoke about an energy ceasefire,' Zelenskyy posted on social media, highlighting the uncertainty of Russia’s willingness to pursue peace.
Trump responded by claiming he had discussed possible solutions with Zelenskyy and reiterated his intention to facilitate the proposed meeting, stating, 'We will get that one done.'
Zelenskyy also called for the involvement of Chinese President Xi Jinping, arguing that Xi could pressure Putin to end the invasion and that a coordinated effort by all three leaders is necessary to stop the bloodshed. The Ukrainian president reaffirmed his readiness to meet with both Trump and Putin whenever all parties are prepared.
The White House and Russia’s embassy have yet to respond to the proposal, remaining silent as Ukraine continues to suffer under relentless attacks.
