Federal Judge Schedules Thursday Hearing on Paramount-Warner Settlement

Summary

U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin set a Zoom hearing for Thursday to address questions about the proposed consent decree between state attorneys general and Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery.

U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin scheduled a Zoom hearing for Thursday at 11 a.m. PT to consider the proposed settlement between state attorneys general and Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery. The hearing will focus on "certain outstanding questions regarding the factual and legal underpinnings of the parties' proposed consent decree, as well as the implementation of the proposed consent decree," the judge wrote in an order.

The consent decree, which the parties have asked the court to approve, includes provisions such as Paramount's commitment to release at least 30 movies per year and the creation of an independent board to oversee CNN and CBS News compliance with journalistic standards. The judge also cancelled a separate hearing on whether the state attorneys general must post a bond as the case proceeds.

In a separate order, the judge indicated she will decide "in due course" whether to dismiss the Writers Guild of America lawsuit that seeks to block the merger. The WGA has announced it reached a settlement with Paramount to end its own litigation.
