Red Sox Extend Contracts of Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow and Manager Chad Tracy
Boston exercised club options to keep chief baseball officer Craig Breslow through 2030 and signed manager Chad Tracy to a three-year deal covering 2027-29, citing their roles in the team’s turnaround.
Boston announced Tuesday that it has exercised the 2029-30 club options on chief baseball officer Craig Breslow and removed the interim tag from manager Chad Tracy, signing him to a three-year contract for the 2027-29 seasons with an additional club option for 2030. The moves aim to maintain continuity after the Red Sox rallied from a 12-17 start to secure a postseason berth.
"Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways," Red Sox CEO Sam Kennedy said in a press release. "Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline, and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation. Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization."
Breslow, hired from the Chicago Cubs after the 2023 season, has overseen a series of high-profile trades, including the deal that sent Rafael Devers to the Giants and brought in Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, James Tibbs III and José Bello. While some of those moves involved subsequent transactions, the front office continued to add players such as Adley Rutschman, Erik Miller and Curtis Mead at the trade deadline.
Tracy, who took over as interim manager in late April following Alex Cora’s dismissal, guided Boston to a 74-55 record after the change. The team posted a 15-game winning streak in July, turning a 37-48 record into a playoff-contending position. Under his leadership, the Sox have seen strong performances from Willson Contreras, Sonny Gray, Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu and others, despite injuries to key players like Garrett Crochet and outfielder Roman Anthony.
The extensions give the organization stability as it heads into the 2027 season, with the front office and coaching staff expected to build on the roster that includes core contributors such as Contreras, Rutschman, Abreu, Rafaela and emerging talent like Payton Tolle and Jake Bennett.
