Trump says U.S. will oppose international AI controls and push for leadership in "superintelligence"

Resumen

In a speech to the UN General Assembly, President Donald Trump pledged to reject proposals for global regulation of artificial intelligence, emphasizing U.S. dominance in the technology and announcing plans for a bilateral AI hotline with China.

President Donald Trump told the United Nations General Assembly that the United States will not support any effort to impose an international framework for regulating artificial intelligence, which he referred to as "superintelligence." He said the country will continue to lead the field, outpacing China and other rivals, and will promote development while monitoring the sector through the Department of Justice.

"The United States also totally rejects any attempt to construct a globalist scheme to control for the artificial intelligence being spoken of so much now," Trump said.

"Whoever wins AI, you have to remember this, and now I say whoever wins SI, whoever wins superintelligence, wins. That's the group that wins. We're leading now over China by a lot and everyone else. We're going to keep it that way."

Trump added that the administration will encourage the growth of the technology, describing it as potentially larger than the industrial revolution, and will oversee it responsibly. He indicated that Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent will present an agreement to establish a direct communication line with China on AI-related issues, allowing both governments to address hacking, security concerns, or rogue AI incidents.

The announcement comes ahead of a scheduled meeting between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, during which a state dinner is expected to host tech executives from companies such as Nvidia, OpenAI and Apple.
