Model Presley Gerber documented ibogaine treatment weeks before death

Summary

Presley Gerber posted about undergoing an ibogaine flood dose in Mexico months before his death, which is being investigated as a suspected overdose.

Presley Gerber, a 27-year-old model and son of Cindy Crawford, posted a video in March showing himself preparing for an ibogaine flood dose at a wellness clinic in Cancún, Mexico. Ibogaine, a psychedelic derived from the Tabernanthe iboga shrub, is legal in some countries and has attracted scientific interest for its potential to treat opioid and cocaine addiction, though it remains illegal in the United States.

Gerber wrote in the Instagram caption that he felt terrified but trusted a larger purpose guiding the experience, adding that he hoped it would be the last time he needed such treatment. His final Instagram post, dated Aug. 5, 2026, featured photos of him wearing Vuori clothing without a caption.

He died on Sept. 20, 2026, while staying at a Los Angeles-area rehabilitation facility. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner listed the cause of death as “deferred,” and Santa Monica police are investigating the case as a suspected overdose. A family spokesperson asked for privacy during the investigation.

Gerber had previously spoken publicly about his struggles with depression, panic attacks, and addiction, including appearances on a podcast and a social-media series called “Mental Health Mondays.” He said his aim was to help others avoid similar mistakes and to encourage open conversations about mental health. His parents and sister Kaia Gerber publicly expressed pride in his openness and efforts to seek treatment.
