SEC occupies top three spots in CBS Sports college football rankings after week three

Summary

Ole Miss moved to No. 3 behind Texas and Georgia in the CBS Sports 138 rankings, giving the SEC control of the top three positions and a significant share of the top ten.

Ole Miss advanced to the No. 3 position in the CBS Sports 138 college football rankings, trailing Texas at No. 1 and Georgia at No. 2 after its win over LSU. The three schools, all from the SEC, now hold the top three spots, half of the top ten and ten of the top twenty-three places in the poll that ranks every FBS team.

The rankings, compiled from ballots submitted by CBS Sports and 247Sports analysts, show a clear tier separation: the top seven teams (Texas, Georgia, Ole Miss, Miami, Notre Dame, Indiana and Ohio State) have an average ballot ranking of 6.0 or better, while LSU, now at No. 10, falls to an average of 12.1, indicating less consensus beyond the leading group.

Week three also produced movement elsewhere. Texas A&M dropped 13 spots after a loss, while Kentucky, Florida and Mississippi State each rose following recent victories. The Movers Report highlighted West Virginia’s rise after a win over Virginia, Northwestern’s jump after a dominant performance against Colorado, and Mississippi State’s climb driven by quarterback Kamario Taylor’s play.

The full top-25 list and the extended rankings from 26 to 138 are available on the CBS Sports website.
