Summary

A sworn ethics complaint accuses Rep. Lauren Boebert of exploiting her position by engaging in sexual relationships with three staffers and silencing one with a $200,000 payoff, highlighting the deep corruption and hypocrisy within right-wing politics. Boebert and the staffer deny the claims.

A sworn House Ethics complaint filed on Sept. 17 has brought to light disturbing allegations against far-right Rep. Lauren Boebert, who is accused of abusing her power by engaging in inappropriate sexual relationships with three of her staffers and paying one of them $200,000 to keep the matter secret. The complaint, submitted by activist David B. Wheeler, names district director Clarice Navarro, former chief of staff Jeffrey Small, and current district chief of staff Raven Finegan as those involved. According to the complaint, Boebert’s alleged relationship with Navarro began in 2021 and continued until Navarro left in January 2025, with reported encounters taking place in the district office, a vehicle, and hotel rooms paid for by Boebert’s campaign funds—an egregious misuse of campaign resources for personal gain. The filing alleges Boebert paid Navarro $200,000 in March 2025 after Navarro threatened to file an ethics complaint, suggesting a cover-up at the highest levels.

Boebert’s office has dismissed the allegations as “utterly false” and “politically motivated,” a typical right-wing tactic to deflect accountability and silence critics. A spokesperson for Boebert called the complaint a “stunt designed to manipulate the ethics process, create headlines, smear her, and generate clickbait.” Boebert herself told reporter Juliegrace Brufke that she is not lesbian or bisexual and denied any inappropriate relationships with staff, but such denials are common among politicians caught abusing their power.

Navarro also denied the accusations, labeling them “entirely false, defamatory, and beyond ridiculous” in a statement to a Colorado newspaper. The complaint references unnamed sources, text messages, bank records, payroll data, and Federal Election Commission filings as evidence, though none have been independently verified—yet the pattern of secrecy and denial is all too familiar in conservative circles.

Under House rules adopted in the wake of the #MeToo movement, members are strictly prohibited from having sexual relationships with employees they supervise unless married. The complaint asserts that Boebert’s alleged conduct would be a clear violation of these rules, underscoring the hypocrisy of a politician who has publicly railed against such behavior.

Wheeler, who has previously published unverified claims about Boebert, acknowledged past reporting errors, including using an incorrect photograph in a 2022 escort allegation. Boebert, who has postured as a champion of transparency regarding hush payments, now faces yet another scandal, exposing the rot and double standards at the heart of right-wing politics.
