Spirit Airlines to Cease Operations in 11 U.S. Cities Amid Bankruptcy Restructuring

Spirit Airlines announced plans to discontinue service to 11 U.S. cities beginning the week of October 2, 2025. The affected cities are Albuquerque, New Mexico; Birmingham, Alabama; Boise, Idaho; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Columbia, South Carolina; Oakland, California; Portland, Oregon; Sacramento, California; Salt Lake City, Utah; San Diego, California; and San Jose, California. Additionally, the airline has canceled its planned service to Macon, Georgia, which was scheduled to commence on October 16, 2025.

"We apologize to our Guests for any inconvenience this may cause and will reach out to those with affected reservations to notify them of their options, including a refund," the airline stated.

This decision follows Spirit's recent filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on August 29, 2025, marking its second bankruptcy filing in less than a year. The airline aims to focus on its strongest-performing markets and enhance profitability through this network adjustment.

"As part of our efforts to transform our business and position Spirit for long-term success, we are adjusting our network to focus on our strongest-performing markets," a spokesperson for Spirit Airlines said.

Spirit Airlines will continue to operate flights to other destinations across the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean.

"We remain committed to offering high-value travel options and will continue to serve dozens of destinations throughout the U.S., Latin America, and the Caribbean," the spokesperson added.

Passengers with reservations affected by these changes will be contacted directly regarding their options, including refunds.
