Tesla Restarts Roadster Reservations Ahead of October Unveiling

Summary

Tesla has reopened reservations for the next-generation Roadster, requiring a $5,000 deposit and a $45,000 wire transfer, as the company prepares to reveal the model in Waco, Texas on Oct. 1.

Tesla announced that reservations for its upcoming Roadster have been reopened on the company’s website, ahead of a public unveiling scheduled for Oct. 1 in Waco, Texas. The move follows years of delays since the model was first shown in 2017.

Customers must pay a $5,000 initial deposit and submit a $45,000 wire transfer within ten days to secure a spot. Tesla says the total $50,000 deposit is fully refundable if the buyer decides not to proceed after the vehicle is shown. The reservation terms note that any quoted purchase price is an estimate, with final pricing to be confirmed when the configurator becomes available.

The teaser image posted on the reservation portal shows a more angular design than the 2017 concept, featuring a wide light bar and a prominent aerodynamic spoiler that aligns with Tesla’s recent “Cyber” styling language.

The Roadster’s development has faced multiple schedule changes, originally targeting a 2020 delivery and later being postponed to prioritize other models. Elon Musk has previously discussed ambitious performance goals, including sub-two-second 0-60 mph times and an optional thruster package, though it is unclear whether such features will be included in the production version.

The upcoming Waco event will be the first opportunity for the public to see the vehicle and for Tesla to provide definitive specifications and pricing.
