Holdout juror in Lindsay Clancy murder trial hires former Trump attorney

Summary

Michael P. Desronvil, the sole dissenting juror in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial, has retained lawyer Edward Paltzik, who previously represented President Donald Trump, as the case heads toward a possible retrial.

The lone juror who voted against a conviction in the Lindsay Clancy case has engaged attorney Edward Paltzik to represent his interests, the lawyer said on Friday. Desronvil, the only holdout in an 11-1 split that led Judge William Sullivan to declare a mistrial on Sept. 4, told reporters he maintained his belief that the evidence proved Clancy’s guilt and that his attempts to raise alternative theories were repeatedly interrupted during deliberations.

Paltzik, who previously represented President Donald Trump in several high-profile lawsuits, confirmed he is now representing Desronvil. He described the juror as an "American hero" and a "Champion of Justice," adding that Desronvil will not be giving further media interviews at this time.

Legal analyst Mark Astor, a former prosecutor, said Desronvil’s decision to hire counsel appears aimed at protecting his reputation after the mistrial, noting that the public scrutiny of jurors could deter future civic participation. The next court appearance for Lindsay Clancy is scheduled for Sept. 29, when a status hearing will address whether prosecutors will seek a retrial or pursue an alternative resolution.
