Ole Miss prepares for high-profile game as former coach Lane Kiffin returns with LSU
Ole Miss expects a large crowd for Saturday's matchup against LSU, marking the first meeting since former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin left for the Tigers ten months ago.
A military flyover was conducted Friday over Oxford’s historic Square ahead of Saturday’s football game, the first meeting between Ole Miss and LSU since former Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin departed for the Tigers. The university anticipates around 300,000 visitors on campus, many of whom are expected to gather in the student area known as The Grove.
Ole Miss supporters have been preparing for the contest for the past ten months, with fans purchasing team apparel and patronizing local restaurants. The game will be the first appearance for LSU’s coaching staff, including Kiffin, at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium since his resignation from Ole Miss.
Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding is slated to welcome the LSU team and will lead his squad in front of a crowd estimated at 60,000 spectators. Both teams are considered contenders for national titles this season, adding competitive significance to the rivalry.
"We look forward to a great game and a strong showing from our players," said a spokesperson for Ole Miss Athletics.
Local authorities have indicated that public safety measures will be in place, with police expected to enforce curfew rules after 1 a.m. on Sunday.
