NASA awards SpaceX nearly $950 million for three additional ISS crew flights

Summary

NASA has extended its Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract with SpaceX, adding three more crewed Dragon missions to the International Space Station through 2030, valued at up to $946 million.

NASA announced on Friday that it has extended its Commercial Crew Transportation Capability contract with SpaceX, authorising three additional crewed Dragon flights to the International Space Station by 2030. The award brings SpaceX’s total under the contract to 17 operational missions and is valued at up to $946 million.

"The award helps NASA maintain access to the space station with two unique commercial crew industry partners," the agency said in a statement.

Under the agreement, SpaceX will handle ground, launch, in-orbit, return and recovery operations, cargo transport and lifeboat capability while docked to the station. The next NASA crewed launch, designated Crew 13, is slated for October, with Crew 14 planned for the following spring.

Boeing will continue to provide ISS access with its Starliner vehicle, which is expected to conduct uncrewed test flights in the coming months and crewed missions from the third quarter of 2027.

SpaceX, which went public in June in a record-setting IPO, has earned $5.92 billion from NASA contracts to date and is shifting focus toward its Starship launch system for future missions.
