Mayim Bialik Discusses Fan Reactions to Her Return in 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe'

Summary

Mayim Bialik said she read online pleas for her character Amy not to appear in the new 'Big Bang Theory' spinoff, but took the comments in stride and enjoyed the experience of playing multiple versions of Amy.

Mayim Bialik, who played Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the long-running sitcom, said she noticed social-media comments hoping her character would not appear in the upcoming spinoff Stuart Fails to Save the Universe. In an interview, the actress recalled texting co-star Melissa Rauch after seeing remarks such as “Please God, let it not be Amy.”

Bialik said she found the reactions amusing and recognized that a show cannot satisfy every viewer. She added that she was excited to be part of the new series and appreciated the chance to portray different versions of Amy across a multiverse storyline.

The spinoff follows Stuart (Kevin Sussman) as he attempts to repair reality after a device created by Sheldon and Leonard triggers a multiversal crisis. Bialik appears in two episodes, first as a therapist version of Amy in Stuart’s subconscious and later as a version married to The Flash. She noted that the production kept details private, describing the buzz as “whispers floating in the ether.”

While she did not rule out additional appearances, Bialik said she remains focused on her podcast and family, but is “very happy” to be involved in the series. New episodes of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe continue to air on HBO Max.
